You Are "You-Nique" Own It!

Introduction

Being your authentic self in a skewed and scripted world is not an easy feat. Often, we find ourselves lost in the wreckage of low self-esteem and trying to fit into a predetermined mold. Sometimes we find ourselves in situations or environments where people try to mold us into what they want us to be or what serves them best. Unfortunately, in this type of environment, individualism is not encouraged. I agree that uniqueness must give way to teamwork at times for the betterment of the whole.  However, that does not mean we should become muted or silenced. Instead, everyone should be seen and treated as a unique person, bringing value to the team.

Embrace Your Uniqueness

I don't know about you; I do not like to spend time around people who do not value or respect my uniqueness. There are a few people that I love and respect in life, but I do not want to be them. When I go to bed at night and wake up in the morning, the only person I want to be is the best version of myself. It is okay to admire good character, qualities, discipline, commitments, sacrifice in others, and strive to develop them in your own life, but those traits must have your vibration at the end of the day. For example, if you admire how someone prays, sings, dresses, speaks, that's good. They should inspire you to level up by drawing closer to God, pray more, take vocal lessons, research fashion tips, and practice speaking in a way that represents you well. However, you should not try to pray, dress, sing, or talk exactly like that person; that is not authentic.

Living Authentic.

Living an authentic life means embracing my uniqueness, my quirks, my flaws, and my strengths. For example, I am outspoken, love watching Nollywood movies, impulsive at times, and strive for order and organization. I love Jesus, spending time with Jesus in prayer, reading, listening to God's Word, and other books. I thrive best in a peaceful and united environment.  I am grateful for my family and community. I love being a nurse, and I enjoy talking to old folks.  Fashion is my passion. Been fashion-forward, colors, and color blocking are some of my trademarks. I enjoy the beach and traveling. I love seafood and I enjoy experiencing other cultures through their food and crafts.  I am passionate about my business Sarah Danielle Apparel and look forward to growing it and several others. Most importantly, you will never hear me say I'm bored because I love my own company. I truly enjoy my alone time, tranquility, and serenity.

a wise mentor

I do not enjoy being around people who think the world revolves around them because that feels that they must be the smartest in the room. They often put others down or try to control manipulate others. I do not believe God created us to be controlled by others. He gave us free will; we should respect and embrace that in each other. A noble mentor knows that their role is not to control, manipulate, or turn you into themselves; but to help us become the best version of who God created you to be, whether it serves their cause or not. I have been blessed with a few good people along this journey of life who appreciates me for who I am and to become. They encouraged me to embrace my better self, not settle for less, pursue my dreams, achieve goals, and not quit. To those people, I remain eternally grateful.

Virtues  To Own.

With that said, I want to add some virtues that complement and enhances our uniqueness. We all have undesirable habits, such as arrogance, rudeness, meanness, selfishness, and self-serving. Frequently, I hear people say; I will do me, regardless of what anyone thinks or feels. That could be wrong or right; if you mean, you will own your game and show up the best version of yourself daily, that's good. If you treat people poorly, manipulate and step on others to get where you need to, that's not right. If you are harsh, rude, and disrespectful to people, that's not cool either. None of us is perfect; we all have flaws, moments of weaknesses, and err at times. However, we should strive to be an altruist people and show up in the world with love, kindness, compassion, humility, forgiveness, grace, and mercy. We should commit to helping the poor, comfort the hurting, root for the "true" underdogs, visit the sick, encourage the brokenhearted. In others words, seek ways to be a good person, a good friend, and a good humanitarian and citizen of the world.

Commit to Grow

We should Commit ourselves to personal growth and development, learn from our mistakes, commit to not repeating them. Identifying the lessons in our mistakes and applying the principles to our lives; will lead to growth. We must endeavor to become better people; if we do, we will mature into remarkable human beings. Navigate life from a place of knowledge, understanding, and wisdom. Don't allow others to use you as a pawn in their chess game.  Don't allow others to manipulate you and mistreat you. Know your worth; if you don't, read the Bible. Jesus loves us enough to give His Life for us. What does that tell you about how he feels about us? That's more than enough love for me baby, everyone else's love is a bonus after this kind of love. Listen, look in the mirror daily, truthfully, and positively affirm yourself with the Word of God. Do not allow social media, others, or your environment to determine or dictate your value.
